The introduction of entrepreneurship education to school leavers in a vocational institute

In this fast-changing society, the youth unemployment rate is high and the knowledge learnt in schools is inadequate to equip students to compete in the competitive marketplace. For many school leavers who do not have the marks to go to university, a vocational institute is an obvious choice for them to continue their studies. In this situation, would it be possible for the institutes to provide entrepreneurship training programs for this group of young people? Do these students have the right kind of education credentials to increase their employability or to start their own business? This study attempts to investigate whether Entrepreneurship Education should be provided to business students in a vocational institute as part of their study program. The results suggest that Entrepreneurship Education would have a positive impact on the strength of the students’ entrepreneurial spirit in terms of starting-up a new business, and a high percentage of students acknowledged that the entrepreneurial knowledge they had acquired would be useful to them.published_or_final_versio

The operation of the commerce festival as an activity approach to learning

The main purpose of this study was to investigate changes in skills, motivation to learn and construction of knowledge in activity learning with business subjects through the operation of a Commerce Festival in a secondary school in Hong Kong. The results of this study clearly indicate the students’ positive perceptions of skills improvement. Holding the Commerce Festival by conducting activity learning in business subjects created a positive atmosphere, which enhanced students’ motivation to learn and develop generic skills. Nonetheless, there are areas in the activity learning approach that need improvement, such as task structure, students’ readiness for activity learning and teachers’ readiness for a paradigm shift in teaching practice.published_or_final_versio

Performance analysis of the doubly-linked list protocol family for distributed shared memory systems

The 2nd International Conference on Algorithms and Architectures for Parallel Processing, Singapore, 11-13 June 1996The doubly-linked list (DLL) protocol provides a memory efficient, scalable, high-performance and yet easy to implement method to maintain memory coherence in distributed shared memory (DSM) systems. In this paper, the performance analysis of the DLL family of protocols is presented. Theoretically, the DLL protocol with stable owners has the shortest remote memory access latency among the DLL protocol family. According to the simulated performance evaluation, the DLL-S protocol is 65.7% faster than the DDM algorithm for the linear equation solver; and is 16.5% faster for the matrix multiplier. From the trend of the performance figures, it is predicted that the improvement in performance due to the DLL-S protocol will be considerably greater when a larger number of processors are used, indicating that the DLL-S protocol is also the most scalable of the protocols tested.published_or_final_versio
